» M.I.A.'s Agitprop Pop
I don’t know if I’ve ever read a profile where the interviewer misses the point more. M.I.A. has always been a popstar, a fashion statement, a blunt-force surface-scratch. And for Lynn Hirschberg (an entertainment columnist) to act so disdainful of it all—and to treat it like it’s some big exposé—just seems like really clumsy, amateurish reporting.
Hirschberg is just as much a “provocateur” as MIA. The only difference is, Maya isn’t fooling herself. Hirschberg clearly thinks she’s above it all, and in no way responsible for perpetrating the same garbage by which she seems so rankled in the article.
Somebody get this woman a clue.
